Plan the display before buying strings.

Measure the route, locate power and controllers, verify indoor or outdoor ratings, respect exact run limits, and decide where every segment goes after January.

Segment location, controller port, direction, tested condition, clips, and power route are cheaper to record while the display still works than to rediscover next winter.
